Learn how can Power BI be applied within the Groundwater Industry

In this course you will learn:

  1. How to Get Started using Power BI: A crash-course in Power BI from data import, data modelling, calculations (DAX), visualisations and collaboration, so you can apply to your own projects back in the office.

  2. How to Automate Data Processing: A tour of the Power Query, where we can combine hundreds of CSV and Excel files and automate complex data cleaning tasks such as accounting for limit of reporting values and unit conversions, and connect to regulatory guidelines.

  3. How to Calculate Statistics: An introduction into the DAX language, with practical examples of how to calculate groundwater statistics such as percentiles, confidence limits, standard deviations, moving averages and seasonality.

  4. How to Compute and Highlight Exceedances: Building on the DAX introduction, you’ll learn how to use measure branching to compute groundwater quality exceedances, and more complex functions and iterators such as CALCULATE, TOPN and RANKX, to dynamically highlight the largest exceedances.

  5. How to Visualise Hydrographs and Time-series Data: An introduction into Power BI visualisations, where we’ll create interactive hydrographs and matrices to display trends in groundwater quality and groundwater levels over time.

  6. How to Create Interactive Maps: We’ll explore different mapping visuals to create interactive point, cluster and heat maps to display spatial distributions of groundwater concentrations and levels over time.

  7. How to Create Interactive Conceptual Site Models: Using the certified custom visual Synoptic Panel, we’ll create interactive conceptual site models and connect these with your datasets to dynamically communicate key findings to non-technical specialists.

  8. How to Bring it all Together in Interactive Dashboards: We’ll bring together all the individual pieces into an interactive dashboard, and explain concepts such as edit interactions, tooltips, bookmarks, drill-down, to create a holistic groundwater reporting tool.

  9. How to Share and Report Online: An introduction to the secure Power BI online service, where we’ll publish our groundwater dashboard to the cloud, and show you how to embed your report in SharePoint, Websites, and the Mobile App.

By completing our training course, you’ll be able to take your groundwater studies to the next level - and develop interactive groundwater reporting tools and online dashboards to streamline data processing, analysis and communication, and develop a culture of data driven decision making across your organisation.

Discover how we deliver our training, with a difference:

  • Designed for Groundwater Professionals: Unlike most Power BI training courses out there which focus on sales, logistics and finance datasets, our training is designed by groundwater professionals tailored for the groundwater industry. Your trainers Alice and Christian , both have close to 10 years experience working across the water resources and contaminated land industries, and are industry leaders in Microsoft Power BI. Alice is a recognised Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for her technical knowledge of the Data Platform, and both Alice and Christian are Microsoft Associates in Business Intelligence and Microsoft Certified Trainers in BI Reporting. They work in your industry. They speak your language. They are your data champions!

  • Fast-tracked Group Learning: Our courses are designed to fast-track your learning. We limit each class to a maximum of 8 people, and have least one trainer per 4 participants. We apply a group learning approach, where participants learn together and help each other. This really improves the retention of material and fast-tracks the program.

  • Cheat Sheets, Check Lists and Templates: You’ll learn Power BI, in Power BI! We won’t weigh you down with lengthy manuals. We provide PBIX files, cheat sheets and check-lists which are invaluable resources when you get back in the office and are creating your own Power BI projects!
